Stop Hunger Now continues to provide disaster relief to Kathmandu, Nepal in response to the devastation as a result of the recent 7.9 magnitude earthquake. In conjunction with Stop Hunger Now India and other non-governmental organization (NGO) partners in the region, Stop Hunger Now is working to provide food and other aid for victims of the earthquake.
“Stop Hunger Now is acting quickly to provide life-saving food and aid to the families affected by the earthquake,” said Rod Brooks, Stop Hunger Now President and CEO. “As the extent of the need becomes clearer, we intend to help the people of Nepal for as long as necessary.”
To date, 142,560 Stop Hunger Now meals have been air freighted from our Kansas City, MO location to Nepal. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries distributed the meals and hygiene kits to help more than 100 families and shared a video of their relief efforts.

In addition to meals, Stop Hunger Now shipments will include other critical supplies and donated aid such as health kits medical supplies. 400 Wine to Water Sawyer® water filters are currently being distributed to partners on the ground in Nepal. The Sawyer® filter uses kidney dialysis technology to purify water to 99.9999%. It is capable of supplying 295 gallons of water per day, enough water for up to 250 people. It is portable, inexpensive, has a 10-year shelf-life, is easy to assemble, and is ideal for disaster relief.
Stop Hunger Now is staging meal packaging events, as well as transportation and distribution operations through its affiliate Stop Hunger Now India in Bangalore, India. Due to its close proximity to Nepal, Stop Hunger Now India will be able to coordinate the response faster, cheaper and more efficiently so that meals and other aid can get where it is needed most.
Stop Hunger Now India has packaged 150,000 meals for Nepal. Hope Worldwide Foundation has already received 30,000 of those meals, with another 130,000 to be shipped soon. An additional 200,000 meals are scheduled to be packaged for Nepal in the next 10 days, with another 100,000 meals to be packaged in the coming weeks.
In addition, Stop Hunger Now Malaysia is packaging meals for Nepal relief efforts. So far, 356,000 meals have been shipped from Malaysia. They will be received by the Nepal embassy to be distributed by 84 Rotary Clubs. An additional 103,000 meals are in route to the  Red Crescent operation in Nepal. So far, Stop Hunger Now Malaysia volunteers have packaged 459,000 meals during recent events for shipment to Nepal and another 75,00 meals are scheduled to be packaged in the coming weeks.
“Our affiliates around the world are able to respond quickly in times of crisis to get meals on the ground in a matter of days,” said Brooks. “By establishing our meal packaging program in India this year, local volunteers use locally-sourced ingredients to support the local economy and give people in need access to a more secure future through local  distribution of the meals and we able to provide immediate support to neighboring countries like Nepal when disaster strikes.”
More critical supplies in the form of four pallets of hygiene kits, one pallet of soap, one pallet of medicine and an additional 71,000 meals from Washington, DC are prepositioned for shipment. Stop Hunger Now needs additional funding to cover the cost of transporting these supplies through MAP International to on-the-ground partner Convoy of Hope in Nepal.
