Rotarians Help Make Hunger History

Stop Hunger Now, meal packaging and efforts to end world hunger were in the spotlight in June at the 106th Rotary International Convention in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Thanks to a sponsorship from Rotary Club of McClean (VA) and Zambrero, Stop Hunger Now engaged roughly 750 conference-goers over three days to package 100,620 dehydrated rice and protein meals. MESA Brasil will distribute the meals to school feeding programs in vulnerable communities in Sao Paolo and nearby areas.
Stop Hunger Now also got a big boost after asking Rotarians to step up their work in the fight against hunger: Fifty Rotary clubs pledged they would package a total of 2.5 million meals throughout the world by June 2016. Thanks to those pledges, 3,425 children will get two meals a day for an entire year.
Stop Hunger Now also participated in a double-sized booth at the convention, which attracted 15,000 Rotarians, Rotaractors (ages 18 to 30), and Interactors (ages 12 to 18) from throughout the world.
Members of the Stop Hunger Now delegation at the conference were Rod Brooks, President and CEO; Allen Renquist, Chief Programs Officer; Dominic Alexander, Regional Program Manager; Pattie Hofland Mackenzie, International Marketing and Development Manager; and Chris Jones, Rotary Relations Manager.
