Rise Against Hunger and Calvary United Methodist Church To Hit 500,000 Meal Milestone

500 Volunteers to Package 100,000 Meals on Jan. 28 to Help Fight World Hunger
Nashville, TN — More than 500 Nashvillians will team up with Rise Against Hunger, formerly Stop Hunger Now, at 1 pm on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 3701 Hillsboro Pike, to package 100,000 meals for people suffering from malnutrition around the world. This event is open to the general public.
The church has packaged 420,000 meals to date and will be hitting a major milestone of half a million meals at its 5th annual event. Not only is the church a repeat host for holding meal packaging events, but are proven advocates of the chronically malnourished and have introduced new volunteers to the movement around Tennessee and beyond.
Rise Against Hunger meal packaging events are a volunteer-based program that coordinates the streamlined packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables and 23 essential vitamins and minerals. Last year,Rise Against Hunger’s Nashville operation packaged over 900,000 meals with 40 groups across the state including the United Way, AIG, JT Moore Middle School, and Austin Peay State University.
Around the world, nearly 795 million people lack adequate food. According to the World Food Programme, one in nine people in the world still suffer from hunger. Last year, Rise Against Hunger meals nourished 489,911 lives. Meals are used to support development programs such as school lunch programs, vocational training, and early childhood development programs, orphanages and medical clinics.
Last year, more than 353,000 volunteers from corporations, churches, schools and civic organizations packaged Rise Against Hunger meals.  Rise Against Hunger operates meal packaging locations in 20 cities throughout the U.S. and five international locations in South Africa, Malaysia, the Philippines, Italy, and India.
